A Few Words From Our Elders

We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God; and that as such, it is the final source of authority in matters pertaining to religion for men living today. Therefore, we demand that the preacher preach and the teachers teach only that for which can be claimed as "thus saith the Lord." As elders we are dedicated to spreading the gospel, devoted to maintaining the faith, and committed to defending the truth. This can be done only if we are true to the Book.

By following God's will (as revealed in the Bible) we will be able to serve the people who make up the Lord's church at Handley. We realize our scriptural responsibilities as elders; therefore, we oversee the work of the congregation, feed the flock at this place, and endeavor to lead God's chosen in a way pleasing to Him. In rendering service to those under our oversight, we are anxious to do the best we can. Our prayer is that we might be active, working, and good elders before God.

Our hearts would rejoice if you became a member of the Lord's church here at Handley. As "your" elders, we would lovingly care for your soul. Handley is a great congregation of which you would be glad to be a part. Should you have any questions,

LEADERS OF THE LORD'S CHURCH IN HANDLEY

JESUS CHRIST, OUR LORD AND SAVIOR

Colossians 1:18

And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

TITUS Chapter 1

5The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you. 6An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
